When paper attendance rosters became a unreliable, the Flight Ops Training Experience Team was presented with an opportunity to innovate and designed a simple, elegant solution.

SWA: Pilot Leadership

Beginning in 2017, our work group at Southwest Airlines set out to analyze and innovate Pilot Leadership philosophy. We began with more questions than answers, but it became clear the dots needed to be connected and put in context of the operation. So we dug in, started talking to the line, and everything we learned led us to one concept— trust.

SWA: Flight Ops Onboarding

A project came across our Team’s desk regarding the need for additional onboarding for Flight Operations employees at Southwest Airlines. We didn’t have much information to work from, so the first order of business was to discover the request’s “origin story.” We traced the project all the way back to the VP of Flight Operations and a completely different equation than where we started.
